On the occasion of this year’s Earth Day, the EU Ecolabel, in cooperation with the travel platform Booking.com, is launching an attractive campaign for hotels and campsites: Until 31 December 2026, interested tourist accommodation providers will receive a 50% discount on the application fees for an EU Ecolabel certification. The campaign offers accommodations a unique opportunity to strengthen their sustainability profile while benefiting from reduced costs.

In 2026, the EU Ecolabel will be present at several events across Germany as part of the “Why EU Ecolabel” campaign. The aim is to engage with consumers, multipliers and businesses, and to demonstrate how the EU Ecolabel can help guide more environmentally conscious purchasing decisions. This year’s tour includes stops in Bonn, Augsburg, Munich and Essen.

This year, the EU Ecolabel will once again be present at key industry trade fairs. Our aim is to engage directly with current and potential license holders as well as decision-makers from cities, municipalities and municipal companies, answer questions and provide information about the benefits of the EU Ecolabel.

The EU Ecolabel continues to see rising numbers. Currently, more than 116,000 products and services carry the European environmental label—a new all-time high. This development highlights the growing presence of reliable environmental labels in the market.

At CMT 2026 in Stuttgart, new EU Ecolabel awards for accommodation providers were presented on 20 January 2026. During a stage show on the Atrium Stage, Dr. Kristin Stechemesser (German Environment Agency) honoured hosts who have earned the EU Ecolabel in recent months. The event was moderated by Marco Knöpfle (ECOCAMPING).

What role do environmental standards play in tourism – and how can accommodation providers and campsites be made sustainable and future-proof? At ITB Berlin 2026, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, companies and organisations present current developments, practical examples and solutions for responsible travel.

We would like to inform you that, with Commission Decision (EU) 2025/2607 of 17 December 2025, the environmental criteria and the related assessment and verification requirements for the award of the EU Ecolabel (EU) 2014/312 – DE044 “Indoor and outdoor paints and varnishes” have been extended until 17 June 2027.

New editions with a validity period until 31 December 2032 under the Decision of 17 December 2025 (EU) 2025/2607 are as follows:

• DE044 “Decorative paints, varnishes and related products (Annex 1)”
• DE056 “Performance coatings and related products (Annex 2)”
• DE057 “Water-based aerosol spray paints (Annex 3)”

We would like to inform you that the following prolongations of EU Ecolabel award criteria have been adopted by the EU Commission in Decision (EU) 2026/66 on December 23, 2025:

• (EU) 2014/391 Bed Mattresses (DE014) until December 31, 2030
• (EU) 2014/350 Textile Products (DE016) until December 31, 2028
• (EU) 2016/1349 Footware (DE017) until December 31, 2028
• (EU) 2017/176 Wood-, Cork- and Bamboo-based Floor Coverings (DE035) until December 31, 2029
• (EU) 2016/1332 Furniture (DE049) until December 31, 2029

The webinar will introduce participants to the key benefits that the EU Ecolabel offers to label holders, in particular to improve their competitiveness in the EU market.

• (EU) 2019/70 Graphic paper (Annex 1) until 31.12.2028 / Tissue Paper and 
  Tissue Products (Annex 2) until 31.12.2028
• (EU) 2017/175 Tourist Accommodation Services until 31.12.2027

We would like to inform you that the fee schedule for the EU Ecolabel ecolabel has been adjusted. The last adjustments to the fee schedules were made in 2014 for the EU Ecolabel.

On 24.05.2023 the EU Ecolabel certificate for accomodation establishments was handed over to the Landhaus am Aremberg by Christohp Eßer-Ayertey (Division Manager RAL Environment).
