EU Ecolabel for accommodation services

The new EU Ecolabel for Tourist Accommodation Services was awarded for the first time in Germany to three campsites at the German Campingtag Conference in Dortmund on November 28, 2019.

Naturcamping Langenwald, Höhencamping Königskanzel in the Black Forest (Freudenstadt) and Inselcamp Fehmarn on the Baltic Sea were the first tourism businesses in Germany to meet the stringent criteria of the new EU Ecolabel.

There are 22 mandatory criteria and 46 optional criteria to be met. These include, for example, the phasing-out of coal and the exclusive use of green electricity. Potential reductions in consumption are also targeted. For example, LED lighting and water-saving shower heads are mandatory.

The certificates were presented by Henning Scholtz, who is responsible for the EU Ecolabel on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency and the EU Commission at RAL gGmbH. Scholtz is also President of EUEB, the European Ecolabelling Board. "The EU Ecolabel has been adapted to new requirements, making it even more sustainable. I am pleased that the first three campsites have achieved certification. Of course I hope that more will follow their good example soon."
